29th Annual Summer Festival & Chili Cook-off July 4

The 4th of July tradition continues as we celebrate Independence Day at the Palo Alto Summer Festival & Chili Cook off. Celebrating all that is wonderful about summer, the festival attracts thousands of participants, of all ages, who love a little Independence Day celebration, sunshine and of course chili!

Prepare your taste buds for an intense culinary cook off as a number of teams battle it out for the chili championship. And there is more than just chili. There are a number of others events including: Live music by the band Blues at 11, line dancing with Hedy McAdams, children’s activities, food vendors, and more all taking place from 12 – 5pm. The chili tasting starts at 1:30pm. Admission is free and tasting kits will be available to purchase for a nominal fee.

Do you think that your secret chili recipe has the “mixins” to stand the heat of competition? This year’s Chili Cook-off is the perfect chance to try it out. Awards will be presented for the following categories: best booth, best spirit and best chili in three divisions: Corporate, Open and Vegetarian.

With the weather warming up, now is the perfect time to plan those local outings with you and your best four-legged companion. Altaire is a pet-friendly community and our greater community of Palo Alto offers our canine friends a number of parks and outdoor spaces to socialize and enjoy life here as much as our homeowners do.

Since so many of you love your four-legged best friend, we thoughts we’d mention a fun event we stumbled upon… Pinot with Fido at Mountain Winery June 20th from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Just a short drive from your home at Altaire, this event allows you to bring your pet along for an afternoon of wine tasting at the picturesque winery.

The Mountain Winery cordially invites you and your pooch to their Pets and Pinot Wine Tasting event. Enjoy a complimentary taste of Estate Pinot Noir and beautiful vistas from the outdoor Vineyard Grill Patio, boasting spectacular views of the Silicon Valley.

Life on the Peninsula: Maker Faire 2010

Science and Art collide at what has become one of the most popular events in the Bay Area, The Maker Faire.

What is Maker Faire? Maker Faire is a newfangled fair that brings together science, art, craft and engineering plus music in a fun, energized, and exciting public forum. The aim is to inspire people of all ages to roll up their sleeves and become makers. This family-friendly event showcases the amazing work of all kinds of makers – anyone who is embracing the DIY spirit and wants to share their accomplishments with an appreciative audience.*

More than 600 exhibits will be on display at the fifth annual Maker Faire Bay Area, which will be held this coming Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23, at the San Mateo County Event Center. The Faire will be open Saturday from 10am – 8pm and Sunday 10am – 6pm. Children under 3 are free. According to the organizers, O’Reilly Media, the event this year will likely draw more than 70,000 attendees.

A local Chinese television station, Chinese NTDTV channel 32, recently did a piece on the success we’ve had at our new home community – Altaire. Obviously the Palo Alto real estate market remains the hot spot for the Bay Area home buyers.
