“Robust Growth” Forecasted for Silicon Valley

January 25th, 2011 by Altaire Townhomes

Back in November we posted an article which described the health of the Silicon Valley real estate market.  A brief synopsis of the article is that the economic health of the region is improving. Silicon Valley is experiencing strong economic recovery that should continue in the next several years, bolstered by employment growth at social-media companies and regional corporate powerhouses. The complete post can be found here.

Some more encouraging news was recently reported. Silicon Valley is projected to experience “robust growth” in 2012. A recent article on Mercurynews.com had all the details.  From their article:

“Robust growth” will return to Silicon Valley in 2012, according to a report today from the Business Forecasting Center at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. While “California remains in the sluggish, early stages of a long, slow five-year recovery,” the San Jose metro area “continues to be the only area in Northern California that is clearly recovering, although Silicon Valley’s growth slowed in the second half of 2010,” according to a news release from the center.

The article goes on to state promising data regarding increases to personal income and job growth, with a decline in jobless rate – all indicators that our local economy is on the road to recovery at a faster rate than the rest of the State of California. Tech is leading the way with strong showings by Apple, Facebook, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems and others.

Palo Alto is a great place to live. We have it all – wonderful people, beautiful weather and a strong vocational infrastructure which brings the best and brightest to our region. Just another reason that Altaire loves to call Palo Alto home.

New Year’s Resolutions for 2011

January 6th, 2011 by Altaire Townhomes

With the New Year comes New Year resolutions. Getting organized, personal health/well-being and financial stability usually round out the typical list of those interested in making a change for the new calendar year.

So what did Palo Altans want to change in 2011?  Locals interviewed in a recent Patch article came up with the following resolutions: Achieving your Goal Weight, More Time for Travel & Obtaining a Vocational Goal.

The article also came up with some excellent advice, whatever your resolutions may be:

Some can be skeptical of resolutions, but setting yearly, monthly or even daily goals for accomplishments both big and small can help keep you focused and on track, to achieving the things you really want in life.

Resolutions tend to be very personal in nature, usually dealing with changes in your own life.  But have you considered a resolution to make a change in the life of others? If this sounds appealing to you, check out http://www.resolution11.org, a site that encourages people to list their altruistic resolutions. Their website’s tag line says it all:

Make Your Resolution. Decide. Submit. Commit.

What a great idea. Helping yourself while you help others. From their website: Resolution ’11 is a at its core a public challenge to individuals and groups to make commitments to causes and issues that are close to their hearts.

At Altaire, one resolution that comes to mind that will help individuals, as well as the greater community, is to resolve to be green and environmentally-conscious with daily decisions.  If you own at Altaire you are already contributing, as our community is built to Build It Green Standards. A Green-Point rated home gives you the assurance that you’re getting a healthier, more environmentally responsible home for your family because rated homes are verified by third party Certified GreenPoint Raters to exceed state building and energy code requirements for health and environmental performance.

Looking for more ways you can live environmentally-conscious in 2011? A recent Patch article also had some excellent advice on how to implement a greener lifestyle.

Altaire hopes that you, and your family, have a prosperous and fulfilling 2011.

Stanford in The Orange Bowl

January 3rd, 2011 by admin

Altaire hopes that you had a safe and happy new Year celebration.  But before you transition out of your celebratory mood, make sure you make plans to watch #4 Standford match up with #13 Virginia Tech in this year’s BCS Orange Bowl.

There is already talk of Stanford quarterback, Andrew Luck, going pro and many give the edge to Stanford.  But don’t count out Virgina Tech as they have a potent player in their dual-threat quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, as well.  Both teams have improved over the course of the season.  Stanford has 1 loss and the Hokies have 2, both at the beginning of their season play.  Both teams are very evenly matched so it should be a great game. It is the first meeting between the two schools and the first meeting between Pac-10 and ACC teams in the 77-year history of the Orange Bowl Classic.

Of course, living in Palo Alto, we do have our favorite….GO STANFORD!

Holiday Season To-Do’s in Palo Alto!

December 18th, 2010 by admin

credit:christmastreelane.org

Looking for a break from all that holiday shopping?

Stop by the Palo Alto Museum of American Heritage (MOAH) for their exhibit with a youthful, whimsical feel–”Living LEGO-cy: Legendary LEGOS and Terrific Trains.” Everyone loves trains and this exhibit won’t disappoint. Together with the Bay Area LEGO User Group and the Bay Area LEGO Train Club, the MOAH presents its annual holiday display, featuring a 12.5-by-25-foot scenic layout with multiple trains running through magnificent city, farm and suburban scenes, including recreations of many actual Bay Area locations. Pictures of the display can be found here. This exhibit runs through Jan. 9 at the MOAH, located at 351 Homer Ave. Admission is free for MOAH members and an affordable $2 for non-members. The museum is open Friday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

And of course it wouldn’t be the holiday season without lights….lots of lights. The tradition continues this year–Fulton Street (off Embarcadero Road), better known as the “Christmas Tree Lane” of Palo Alto, is now lit up for the holidays. This long-standing tradition, which began in 1940, features fun activities with miniature Christmas trees lining the street, the famed, larger-than-life toy soldier and, of course, some of the most beautifully decorated homes in all of the Bay Area. Images can be found here. Christmas Tree Lane will be lighted each night from 5:00 pm to 11 pm. through December 31.

Altaire loves being a part of the Palo Alto community and we wish you and your family a happy holiday season.

Pantone’s 2011 Color of the Year

December 13th, 2010 by admin

One of the easiest ways to add a little personality to a new home is with a fresh coat of paint. But picking a paint color can be a daunting task. It’s a tricky balance between lighting, personality, mood and current trends. Are you one of those people who feels overwhelmed by the process of picking “the right color” and are left with a dozen swatches on walls and no direction? Pantone to the rescue! The leader in color and design recently announced their much-anticipated color of the year.

Pantone’s 2011 Color of The Year – PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle. Pantone’s website describes the vibrant color as:

Energizing Honeysuckle lifts spirits and imparts confidence to meet life’s ongoing challenges.

A Color for All Seasons. Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day — with nothing “everyday” about it.

So how does one incorporate this playful color into an interior design theme? Their article goes on to say:

Honeysuckle is upbeat and dynamic when used on large areas like the entry area of a house or an apartment. It is an appetite and conversation stimulant when used on the dining room walls. In the kitchen, it adds a fun touch on the table in placemats and other linens (patterned or solid), colored glassware, candles and small appliances. Honeysuckle is a great color to cover up shabby kitchen cabinets, or, if that’s too much of a color statement for you, try repainting knobs and drawer pulls. But be warned – once you try this arresting shade, it can become addictive.

You can read the entire article at the Pantone site here.

Happy Decorating & Painting from the Altaire Team!
