It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!

November 22nd, 2010 by Altaire Townhomes

credit: surlatable.com

The holidays are upon us. Time to forget about how the rest of the year flew by and turn our attention to gearing up for some holiday cheer and festivities. What better way to usher in the holidays than a tree lighting ceremony where you can do your holiday shopping?

On Saturday, November 27, from 5-7pm Stanford Shopping Center is having a Tree Lighting Ceremony.  A great family event to kick-start your holiday season. SFGATE.com has an excellent summary of what awaits you and your family at this year’s lighting ceremony:

Join Stanford Shopping Center, Holly Berry, the Holiday Fairy and her singing and dancing holiday trees for a musical evening of Christmas delight! Bop to the beat of everyone’s favorite holiday tunes as Holly Berry and old St. Nick lead the countdown to the illumination of the entire Center and our giant Christmas Tree! After the performance, follow the characters to Center Pavilion for photos with Santa and seasonal goodies!

And for those of you who would like a little indoor activity to ward off the winter chill, Sur La Table at Town and Country Village has a Gingerbread Decorating Party in December.  A great treat for the little ones and those of us who are all grown up but still kids at heart.

The gingerbread house, gumdrops, candy canes, icing and other decorative goodies, are all included.  All you need to bring is imagination and creativity. At the end of the party, you’ll be able to bring your gingerbread masterpiece home for the holidays.  A light snack will also be served.

Our neighbors at the OFJCC has a calendar of Hanukkah events to celebrate the holiday.

Happy Holidays from Altaire!

Homes are still available starting at $449,900, so come by for a tour our beautiful models and seize the opportunity to call our lovely community HOME. We are nearing completion at Altaire and putting the final touches on our community – stay tuned for an upcoming celebration day…

Palo Alto gets its own Street Eats Fest @ Edgewood Plaza

November 14th, 2010 by Altaire Townhomes

People make their orders at the HapaSF truck, which serves organic Filipino cuisine, during the Edgewood Eats event at Edgewood Shopping Center in Palo Alto on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010. Seven gourmet food trucks served their dishes at the typically empty plaza, turning it into a trendy and busy food court. Event organizer Susie Hwang estimated that 350 people were at the foodie gathering by 5:30 p.m. (Kirstina Sangsahachart/ Daily News)

If you think that the food cart craze has only hit large metropolitan areas along the likes of Portland, San Francisco and San Jose, think again! Palo Alto is drawing some amazingly talented chefs that have opted to hit the road to bring tasty cuisine directly to their fans and followers on social channels like twitter and facebook, catering specialty events and venturing where gastro options may be lacking.

The Peninsula/Silicon Valley and Palo Alto in particular is prime territory for food carts to feed hungry students and plugged-in techies that are short on time for lunch or opt to bring dinner home to the family (many let you order take-out online!)

Recently, Palo Alto’s Edgewood Plaza made news with its new organized Foodie event called, “Edgewood Eats”.  7 Gourmet (and well known) trucks transformed the vacant shopping lot , serving up dinner to the tune of  around 350 people!  The Plaza launched the weekly event on September 13th, but plans to scale back in winter months, only to ramp back up again in warmer weather.  You can follow the event at http://www.facebook.com/EdgewoodEatsAltaire Palo Alto has also made Edgewood Eats a favorite on facebook for your convenience.

“… Among the vendors at Edgewood Plaza on Monday were Curry Up Now with its Indian wraps and rice bowls; MoGo BBQ with its Korean-inspired Mexican food; and RoliRoti with its spit-roasted chicken and potatoes. Kara’s Cupcakes was there to satiate those craving something sweet. –”

Silicon Valley Growing Fast

November 9th, 2010 by Altaire Townhomes

According to statistics presented at a recent real estate conference sponsored by Collier International, the economic health of the region is improving.  Silicon Valley is experiencing strong economic recovery that should continue in the next several years, bolstered by employment growth at social-media companies and regional corporate powerhouses, such as Intel.

The South Bay is in the top tier of regions leading in the percentage change of its jobs base,  faster than the metropolitan areas of Phoenix, New York, Miami, Seattle and a slew of other cities.

According to a recent article in The Registry, The Bay Are Real Estate Journal -

‘Silicon Valley, which created nearly 10,000 jobs in the first three quarters, adding 1.1 percent to its employment base, is the strongest geography in Northern California and one of the strongest in the nation, said Ken Rosen, chairman of Berkeley-based Rosen Consulting Group and Rosen Real Estate Securities.’

Palo Alto is a great place to live.  We have it all – wonderful people, beautiful weather and a strong vocational infrastructure which brings the best and brightest to our region.  Just another reason that Altaire loves to call Palo Alto home.

It’s Time to Fall Back!

November 6th, 2010 by admin
A Helpful Reminder from Altaire, Palo Alto

We “Fall Back” on November 7th this year. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back 1-hour when you go to bed tonight! Daylight Saving Time was designed to give more light during summertime hours, and is widely seen as an energy savings measure. We will “Spring Forward” and recapture the hour on March 13, 2011.

Firefighters across the nation are using this year’s time change to remind the public that it’s a great time to change batteries in your home smoke alarms, if they are not hardwired.

According to our new, local Palo Alto digital news blog, Palo Alto Patch – ” Turning your clock back on November 7 is also the perfect time to change the batteries in your smoke alarm.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department recommends testing  and changing the battery every six months to keep your alarms in top working order. The department also recommends replacing your alarm after 10 years.”

Here’s a link to the Santa Clara County Fire Department Website, where you can find helpful safety tips.

Local Palo Alto – Fraiche Yogurt

November 3rd, 2010 by Altaire Townhomes

credit: fraicheyogurt.com

With Halloween and all its treats behind us, and the holiday season fast approaching, you may feel a bit overwhelmed with the amount of food you will be consuming in the months to come.  Wouldn’t it be great to find a  food that tastes great and is healthy as well?  Sounds too good to be true?  It does exist and right here in our local community. Enter Palo Alto’s own Fraiche Yogurt, makers of homemade organic fresh and frozen yogurt that is sinfully delicious and outrageously healthy.

A little bit about Fraiche Yogurt from their website:

Fraiche is a homemade, organic fresh yogurt and frozen yogurt café. All of our European-style yogurts are made from scratch, in-house using local Clover organic milk and a special probiotic-focused culture. Our fresh yogurts are the basis for our frozen yogurt. So, whether you feel like fresh or frozen yogurt, you’ll still enjoy the same health benefits.

The YELP reviews are in and it seems that Fraiche is a local Palo Alto crowd-pleaser.

I am a froyo freak! I lovvve lovvee frozen yogurt and have tried many many manyyyyy a places….BUT this one tops them all! Besides the fact that they have fresh yogurt and steal cut oatmeal with amazing fresh and healthy toppings, the frozen yogurt is to DIE for. I am not gonna lie, I have become quite a regular here, especially because I can come here for a lunch time snack, or for breakfast, or for a late night treat since they are open late! I love the soy and pomegranate flavors and I love the home made mochi! Also, their seasonal options (peaches & apple crisps) are to die for! – Iris B.

I love love love frozen yogurt…add the fact that Fraiche is organic and made in-house, makes it that much better.  Sure I’ll partake in just about any froyo establishment, but if I’m nearby Fraiche and the craving kicks in there is no where else I would rather go.  Amazing yogurt + simple yet yummy toppings = perfection. - Aida V.

Fraiche Yogurt has local shops at 644 Emerson, Palo Alto and on the Stanford Campus.  They also just opened a storefront in San Francisco.

Palo Alto has so much to offer locally.  At Altaire, we are truly proud to call this great community “home”.

NEW – Local Mobile Mole to-go!

October 25th, 2010 by Altaire Townhomes

TheOaxacanKitchen.com

Known for their Mole,  Four Oaxacan moles to be exact (red, black, yellow, green) plus dishes from that region such as molotes and tlayudas are served by husband/wife team Ron and Zaida Kent. The Kent’s will now be known locally as Mole to-go!

The Oaxacan Kitchen in Palo Alto Goes Mobile! As reported by the Mercury News, “The Oaxacan Kitchen in Palo Alto is pulling up stakes and hitting the road. In a restaurant van, naturally. In two years, Ron and Zaida Kent have made their restaurant the Peninsula’s go-to spot for a rainbow of moles (negro, amarillo, verde and coloradito).“   — Full Article
Here is what some fans on Yelp have to say –

“I find that that the flavors are quite different than those of the mexican food that most are used to. In other words, this is not your usual tex-mex! Oaxaca is known for their moles and indeed, their moles here are delicious! They use fresh ingredients always and it shines in their food!” — Gladys B.

“I had never heard of “Oaxacan” food so I was a little skeptical at first.  Even moreso when I saw the menu was full of spicy foods (I’m a white chick!).  BUT, I scored with the special of the day being beef short rib.  It was so incredibly tender and juicy and flavorful, and OH SO YUMMY!  I’m officially sold on “grass fed beef” being superior.  The meat was fantastic.” – Lil E.

The good news for fans? The Kents will still be serving up specialties at the Palo Alto Farmers’ Market and offering cooking classes, as well as specialty catering for events!

Palo Alto Farmers’ Market
Gilman Street, downtown Palo Alto, behind the Post Office
Opening Day May 8, 2010. Every Saturday through December 2010.
Hours: 8AM to NOON

Palo Alto Art Center Fall 2010 Exhibits

October 18th, 2010 by admin

For Fall 2010, the Palo Alto Art Center will be displaying three exciting exhibits, running from Sept. 25 through Dec. 12, 2010, for all to enjoy.

So what can you expect to see? Their website gives an excellent summary of the three compelling exhibits :

In Focus: Collecting Photography showcases the unique character of, and stories behind, four diverse photography collections formed by art professionals who live in the Bay Area. Light from the Underground is a photographic essay by Colette Campbell-Jones based on communal memories collected from miners and families in South Wales. Paintings from Haiti presents selections from the collection of Dr. Ralph S. Greco. Many of the paintings make palpable the invisible powers of belief that have sustained a culture through centuries of adversity.

As covered in an earlier post, the Art Center is scheduled to undergo a significant remodel and renovation. In order to facilitate this transformation, the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation is kicking off a community-wide “Where Art Transforms” capital campaign to raise the funds necessary to renovate the Art Center. This project recently received two generous gifts from Ann Bowers and the Packard Foundation and is very close to its funding requirements .

To learn more about the campaign and how you can help, click here or watch their video below.

Altaire loves all that Palo Alto has to offer and we are very excited to see the proposed renovations to the Palo Alto Art Center become a reality.
