Nola Reopens After Million-Dollar Remodel

‘N’awlins’ restaurant, Nola, opened its doors once again after a significant remodel of the popular restaurant. Inspired by its namesake, the southern city of New Orleans, Nola boasts an expanded food and cocktail menus, modern new lounge, a colorful Spanish-inspired fountain and an impressive compliment of large high-definition television sets for the patron’s enjoyment. Nola owner, Greg St. Claire, showcased the six week, million-dollar remodel earlier this week.

The heart and soul of Nola has not changed a bit – gumbo served as Mississippi Blues play in the background.  But there are some artistic changes that patrons will immediately notice.  The remodel/renovation includes an impressive art collection. According to a recent patch article, St. Claire is quite proud of the display. “I probably have the largest collection of folk art from the American South this side of the Mississippi,” St. Claire said. “Only a fraction of it is on display here.”

The building itself adds to the ambiance that is Nola.  The structure is actually “part of the historic registry,” St. Claire said and its history seems custom-made for the popular current restaurant and lounge. According to St. Claire, a Spaniard named Pedro de Lemos originally built the two-story building in the early 20th century after he moved to Palo Alto from New Orleans.

So what can you find when you dine at Nola?  Their website says it all : Our menu consists of Creole, Cajun, and Southwestern cuisine. New Orleans favorites, such as hurricanes, fresh oysters, gumbo, seafood jambalaya, and étouffée, are just a few of the classics you will find. And the reviews confirm and explain the popularity of this unique dining experience in Palo Alto:

“Great food , great atmosphere , outstanding and helpful service” – boorah.com … “… fun bar and atmosphere” – dine.com … “Great food, great ambiance” – zagat.com … “Excellent service!” – dine.com … “Very fun place” – dine.com

The variety of culinary options on the Peninsula is staggering; Palo Alto is indeed a foodie-heaven.  Just one more reason Altaire loves calling Palo Alto “home”.
