Here’s what Yelpers say

“This place is a nightmare of heavenly delights for a person who is intent on sticking to a non sweets non butter diet….the scones, the croissants, the muffins…oh my!  And mostly, I am a savory person…so the fact that the sweets are so irresistible is amazing to me.” – Lisa R.

My pick for BEST Brunch place in Palo Alto!
Ambiance – open, spacious & lively with friendly staff.  Also has an outdoor seating area.  Must Try’s are Homemade Fruit Poptarts (they are soo yummy!), Hot Cake with Maple Pecan Butter, and Bacon!!  Pretty much everything on the menu is yummy!   Great for casual stop ins (you can sit at the bar), family, and groups.  They use all locally grown ingredients and take pride in each item they make.  Totally recommend it to anyone looking for a great brunch experience!

Learn about the Mayfield Bakery Story, in their words: “Bacchus Management Group, owners of several restaurants in the Bay Area, had a vision of an artisan bakery that could supply all of their restaurants with fresh-baked bread daily—a way to make their restaurants, which already includes an organic farm and a custom coffee roastery, an even more sustainable, self-sufficient entity. They found that spot in Palo Alto’s Town & Country Village, which came with the added bonus of a cafe next door to serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.”

Pantone’s 2011 Color of the Year

December 13th, 2010 by admin

One of the easiest ways to add a little personality to a new home is with a fresh coat of paint. But picking a paint color can be a daunting task. It’s a tricky balance between lighting, personality, mood and current trends. Are you one of those people who feels overwhelmed by the process of picking “the right color” and are left with a dozen swatches on walls and no direction? Pantone to the rescue! The leader in color and design recently announced their much-anticipated color of the year.

Pantone’s 2011 Color of The Year – PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle. Pantone’s website describes the vibrant color as:

Energizing Honeysuckle lifts spirits and imparts confidence to meet life’s ongoing challenges.

A Color for All Seasons. Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day — with nothing “everyday” about it.

So how does one incorporate this playful color into an interior design theme? Their article goes on to say:

Honeysuckle is upbeat and dynamic when used on large areas like the entry area of a house or an apartment. It is an appetite and conversation stimulant when used on the dining room walls. In the kitchen, it adds a fun touch on the table in placemats and other linens (patterned or solid), colored glassware, candles and small appliances. Honeysuckle is a great color to cover up shabby kitchen cabinets, or, if that’s too much of a color statement for you, try repainting knobs and drawer pulls. But be warned – once you try this arresting shade, it can become addictive.

You can read the entire article at the Pantone site here.

One of the reasons life is well lived here on the Peninsula, and in our hometown of Palo Alto, is that we have easy access to urban amenities like live musical performances, art exhibits, community festivals and events in a small town environment. The beautiful weather, great schools and care-free living at Altaire within steps of pilates, yoga, childcare, swimming pools and more is icing on the cake. Having Stanford University just down the road is certainly another big bonus!

What’s new at Stanford? The Cantor Art Center’s Contemporary Gallery has been transformed and we are offered a look at the “Extreme Makeover”.  “Extreme Makeover: A Fresh Look at the Cantor Art Center’s Contemporary Collection” opens December 15 and is ongoing. Be sure to stop by and view the new floor-to-ceiling re-installation of its contemporary gallery and new exhibition of contemporary works from the 1950′s to present.

VISITOR INFORMATION: Cantor Arts Center is open Wednesday – Sunday, 11 am – 5 pm, Thursday until 8 pm. Admission is free. The Center is located on the Stanford campus, off Palm Drive at Museum Way. Parking is free after 4 pm weekdays and all day on weekends. Information: 650-723-4177, museum.stanford.edu.

Palo Alto gets its own Street Eats Fest @ Edgewood Plaza

November 14th, 2010 by Altaire Townhomes

People make their orders at the HapaSF truck, which serves organic Filipino cuisine, during the Edgewood Eats event at Edgewood Shopping Center in Palo Alto on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010. Seven gourmet food trucks served their dishes at the typically empty plaza, turning it into a trendy and busy food court. Event organizer Susie Hwang estimated that 350 people were at the foodie gathering by 5:30 p.m. (Kirstina Sangsahachart/ Daily News)

If you think that the food cart craze has only hit large metropolitan areas along the likes of Portland, San Francisco and San Jose, think again! Palo Alto is drawing some amazingly talented chefs that have opted to hit the road to bring tasty cuisine directly to their fans and followers on social channels like twitter and facebook, catering specialty events and venturing where gastro options may be lacking.

The Peninsula/Silicon Valley and Palo Alto in particular is prime territory for food carts to feed hungry students and plugged-in techies that are short on time for lunch or opt to bring dinner home to the family (many let you order take-out online!)

Recently, Palo Alto’s Edgewood Plaza made news with its new organized Foodie event called, “Edgewood Eats”.  7 Gourmet (and well known) trucks transformed the vacant shopping lot , serving up dinner to the tune of  around 350 people!  The Plaza launched the weekly event on September 13th, but plans to scale back in winter months, only to ramp back up again in warmer weather.  You can follow the event at http://www.facebook.com/EdgewoodEatsAltaire Palo Alto has also made Edgewood Eats a favorite on facebook for your convenience.

“… Among the vendors at Edgewood Plaza on Monday were Curry Up Now with its Indian wraps and rice bowls; MoGo BBQ with its Korean-inspired Mexican food; and RoliRoti with its spit-roasted chicken and potatoes. Kara’s Cupcakes was there to satiate those craving something sweet. –”

It’s Time to Fall Back!

November 6th, 2010 by admin
A Helpful Reminder from Altaire, Palo Alto

We “Fall Back” on November 7th this year. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back 1-hour when you go to bed tonight! Daylight Saving Time was designed to give more light during summertime hours, and is widely seen as an energy savings measure. We will “Spring Forward” and recapture the hour on March 13, 2011.

Firefighters across the nation are using this year’s time change to remind the public that it’s a great time to change batteries in your home smoke alarms, if they are not hardwired.

According to our new, local Palo Alto digital news blog, Palo Alto Patch – ” Turning your clock back on November 7 is also the perfect time to change the batteries in your smoke alarm.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department recommends testing  and changing the battery every six months to keep your alarms in top working order. The department also recommends replacing your alarm after 10 years.”

Here’s a link to the Santa Clara County Fire Department Website, where you can find helpful safety tips.
