Online Community Portal Makes Supporting Local Business Easy

Peninsula Shops The Peninsula has a host of local businesses that make our life in Palo Alto more convenient.

We’d like to introduce you to “Peninsula Shops” – a merchant supported online community portal helping to strengthen and unify local livelihood on the Peninsula. Good news for current and future Altaire residents! We are located within a top ranking school district -check out the article link below from Palo Alto Online.

Palo Alto is a family friendly community in the heart of Silicon Valley with great weather and great schools. Altaire is easily accessible to many major employers, and with many walkable services nearby, including the new state of the art campus of the Palo Alto JCC, there is something for all ages.

The design of our community is very pedestrian friendly. It is built on a podium with meandering walks lined with lush bamboo. Without streets to cross, there is no traffic and no fumes from cars, which makes it safer for the kids to play. Our neighbor, the Oshman Family JCC offers 12 acres of fun which includes access to Yoga/Pilates, state of the art fitness center, basketball courts, Daycare, Swimming Pools and a 9,000 sq ft cultural theater. With these just steps from your front door, you feel like you are part of a greater community. The JCC also offers preschool classrooms. And the Winner is….Altaire!

Did you know that Altaire has been the BUILD IT GREEN HOME TOUR choice for the past two years?

We’ve also won numerous awards including:

Gold Nugget Merit Award for Sustainable Residential Neighborhood

BUILD IT GREEN AWARD – Green Point Showcase – Recognition for Fostering Communities

MAME award – Green Community of the year

GREEN POINT RATED

Each home at Altaire received a GREEN POINT RATED certificate with high scores. Green Point Rated is a certification the nonprofit BUILD IT GREEN awards to sustainable homes and communities. Points are awarded for Community Design, Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Indoor Air Quality and Conservation of Resources.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

We focused on energy efficiency. Did you know that homes generate 15% of the greenhouse gas generated nationwide, and because homes have such a long life span and energy costs are anticipated to increase, the benefits of the Altaire homes will last for many many years.

All of the homes meet the US Department of Energy Energy Star requirements. The Department of Energy calculates that an EnergyStar qualified Home can reduce utility bills $200 to $400 per year and keep 4,500 lbs of greenhouse gases out of our air each year.

We did this by designing all homes to be greater than 15%, some even greater than 22% above Title 24, the rigid California Energy code that builder use to build by. We did this by installing insulation via a High Quality Insulation Installation protocol and an Air Barrier to make sure the heated/cooled air stays in the home. We hired a third party to inspect the insulation and test the heating and air conditioning ducts to make sure they exceed the performance required.

WATER CONSERVATION

The next item we focused on was water conservation. Santa Clara Water Department calculates this community will save over 1,000,000 gallons of water a year compared to a code built home. We accomplished this with:

Drought Tolerant plants
Smart irrigation controllers
Dual flush toilets
And a Dishwasher that uses 6.5 gallons of water far less than the average

Halloween Haunted House at Gamble Gables Mansion

The leaves are changing and you know what that means……Halloween is just around the corner. If you are looking for something to get you ready for the Halloween season a nice option is to take your little ghouls & goblins to the Halloween Haunt at Gamble Garden Mansion. The Halloween Haunted House is on Sunday, October 25th. Show up in costume from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and meet and greet the ghosts in person. This event is suitable for trick-or-treaters, ages 4-10, accompanied by an adult. Younger visitors may enjoy coming earlier when there is more daylight. Space is limited and reservations are required. You may register for this event by calling 650-329-1356 ext. 201 Monday through Friday between 9 AM to noon. Happy Halloween!!!
