Did you know that Altaire has been the BUILD IT GREEN HOME TOUR choice for the past two years?

We’ve also won numerous awards including:

Gold Nugget Merit Award for Sustainable Residential Neighborhood

BUILD IT GREEN AWARD – Green Point Showcase – Recognition for Fostering Communities

MAME award – Green Community of the year

GREEN POINT RATED

Each home at Altaire received a GREEN POINT RATED certificate with high scores. Green Point Rated is a certification the nonprofit BUILD IT GREEN awards to sustainable homes and communities. Points are awarded for Community Design, Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Indoor Air Quality and Conservation of Resources.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

We focused on energy efficiency. Did you know that homes generate 15% of the greenhouse gas generated nationwide, and because homes have such a long life span and energy costs are anticipated to increase, the benefits of the Altaire homes will last for many many years.

All of the homes meet the US Department of Energy Energy Star requirements. The Department of Energy calculates that an EnergyStar qualified Home can reduce utility bills $200 to $400 per year and keep 4,500 lbs of greenhouse gases out of our air each year.

We did this by designing all homes to be greater than 15%, some even greater than 22% above Title 24, the rigid California Energy code that builder use to build by. We did this by installing insulation via a High Quality Insulation Installation protocol and an Air Barrier to make sure the heated/cooled air stays in the home. We hired a third party to inspect the insulation and test the heating and air conditioning ducts to make sure they exceed the performance required.

WATER CONSERVATION

The next item we focused on was water conservation. Santa Clara Water Department calculates this community will save over 1,000,000 gallons of water a year compared to a code built home. We accomplished this with:

Drought Tolerant plants
Smart irrigation controllers
Dual flush toilets
And a Dishwasher that uses 6.5 gallons of water far less than the average

Halloween Haunted House at Gamble Gables Mansion

The leaves are changing and you know what that means……Halloween is just around the corner. If you are looking for something to get you ready for the Halloween season a nice option is to take your little ghouls & goblins to the Halloween Haunt at Gamble Garden Mansion. The Halloween Haunted House is on Sunday, October 25th. Show up in costume from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and meet and greet the ghosts in person. This event is suitable for trick-or-treaters, ages 4-10, accompanied by an adult. Younger visitors may enjoy coming earlier when there is more daylight. Space is limited and reservations are required. You may register for this event by calling 650-329-1356 ext. 201 Monday through Friday between 9 AM to noon. Happy Halloween!!!

The Baylands Preserve in your backyard

Within a short walk from your Altaire doorsteps, you will find the 1,940-acre Baylands Preserve. The Baylands Preserve is the largest tract of undisturbed salt marsh and mud flat remaining in the San Francisco Bay. Considered by many to be one of the best bird watching areas on the west coast, the Baylands Preserve has a substantial resident population of birds as well as being a major migratory stopover on the Pacific Flyway. However, the Baylands Preserve offers much more than birdwatching.

Finding balance between work and life is sometimes hard to do. We get it! So many of us spend our weeks commuting, working long hours in front of our computers, then dashing to daycare or off to errands, only to begin all over again the next day. It’s easy to forget to take time for oneself. Altaire offers an ideal location, where you can enjoy an active lifestyle, both indoors and outdoors, at a moments notice. There are a variety of activities to do, whether it is on the land – walking, running, golfing or biking – or on the water, wind surfing, and boating (non-motorized such as canoes, kayaks or small, hand-launched boats and sailboards). There are fifteen miles of multi-use trails providing access to a unique mixture of tidal and fresh water habitats for the whole family to enjoy. Especially popular is the duck pond! By living so close to these community amenities, you can make the most of your free-time.

In order to protect this natural resource, please follow these few rules when visiting the preserve:

Park in designated parking areas.
Dogs are permitted on leash, unless posted in special nesting areas.
Speed limit 15 MPH.
Skates and coasting devices are only allowed on paved, off-road preserve trails (along East Bayshore Road and behind the Baylands Athletic Center) due to narrow roadways.
Please do not feed wildlife or abandon pets or birds such as rabbits, geese or ducks.
